Lewis Latimer – Perfected the light bulb filament so that bulbs would burn brighter and last longer. This led Thomas Edison to hire him as the only black scientist with the elite Edison Pioneers.
Ernest Just – Specialized in studying reproductive cells of marine animals, and wrote extensively on cell division.
