Lewis Latimer – Perfected the light bulb filament so that bulbs would burn brighter and last longer. This led Thomas Edison to hire him as the only black scientist with the elite Edison Pioneers.
Ernest Just – Specialized in studying reproductive cells of marine animals, and wrote extensively on cell division.
Percy Julian – Received a Ph.D. in chemistry, and concentrated on developing synthetic chemicals and drugs, many from soybeans, that were used for everything from fire-fighting to treating glaucoma and arthritis.
Charles Drew – A surgeon and teacher, refined the first practical method of storing blood in a blood bank. He created the blood banks used to treat wounded allied soldiers in WWII. Available on Black.
